My presentation was titled “Teaching & Learning in ODE: Blended, Digital, and AI-Driven Pedagogy.” It explored the foundations of Open and Distance Education, blended learning, digital and collaborative tools, AI-driven pedagogy, and learner engagement and supp...

ODL and Formal Education Are Equal Alternatives That Complement Each Other—Let’s Treat Them That Way

Image
Takatso Kumi: The ODL Advocate  In a world where education continues to evolve, Open and Distance Learning (ODL) stands as a powerful and equal alternative to the conventional classroom model. This realization, inspired by discussions with my esteemed colleague Mme Mabakubung Cekwane, highlights the transformative potential of institutions like the Lesotho Distance Teaching Centre (LDTC). Yet, many Basotho remain unaware of the opportunities ODL offers—not just as a fallback for challenging circumstances but as a deliberate and legitimate choice for those seeking an enriching pathway to success. ODL: A Robust Alternative to Conventional Education One of the most significant misconceptions about ODL is that it serves only those facing barriers to traditional education. In reality, ODL is not about circumstances—it is about choice. Learners opt for ODL because it provides the same opportunities as formal education: university admissions, career advancement, and skill development. It ...

By Takatso Kumi Course Writer - LDTC The Lesotho Distance Teaching Centre (LDTC) proudly recognizes the remarkable achievements of our learners who excelled in the 2024 LGCSE examinations. These accomplishments are not just a testament to their academic capabilities but to their indomitable spirit and perseverance. Unlike traditional students, these learners embarked on their academic journey through distance education—a path often fraught with unique challenges. Studying remotely requires extraordinary self-discipline, determination, and resilience. These students had to navigate learning difficulties in isolation, without the daily interactions and support of peers and teachers in a typical classroom setting. Many are adult learners juggling multiple roles—parents, breadwinners, or workers—while striving to build a brighter future through education. Their commitment to their studies despite these hurdles is nothing short of inspirational. Study Center Rankings The study centres in Bo...
